Is it just me or does techno sound like a washing machine in a spin cycle?

I'm not so sure about sounding like a washing machine...
I think it's more like a 'clucking' sound.

I don't see how it does, but I do assume some synth instruments can sound like a washer machine. I hear more digitized sounds than mechanical. Then again, all people hear different things in sound.

Now I totally have to play soundbites over my washing machine and try to sell it as a song ^_^

No, at least not to me. Generally, you have a bass line, and some combination of sweeps, high pitched noises, and the occasional woman going "ooooh".

It's my preferred genre of music lately.

Besides, my washer sounds more like a sloshy, mean helicopter than techno.

And mine sounds like an old motor about to explode, banging and grinding throughout the cleaning cycle. Like a crashing helicopter.

You should really love this comedy clip from Bret Ernst on techno music. It is hiliarious and of course the roller skating bit at the end is my favorite.

I don't think techno sounds like a washing machine but I guess it is an acquired taste. Some like it and some just think it's noise. I like it.

This granny sure likes it!

I don't think it sounds like that at all. Maybe your washing machine sounds like Techno when it is in a spin cycle but if it did sound like my washing machine I would personally hunt down all Techno artists and kill them.

Pop music has gone steadily downhill since the introduction of electric recording in the late 1920's because it is simply too easy to make a lot of noise. For this reason it is best to listen to popular music that was composed prior to 1930.

I guess I don't hear it, but that may be because I write techno/trance/electronica sometimes, and I'm listening to each specific element of the songs, not how much they sound like non-instrumental sounds.

But I could understand in more of the trance genre, with the side-chaining of the bass and the kick, along with the coined "saw" sound. It gives the same feel as my washer when it's overloaded and starts to shake violently until I turn it off.

But to be honest I really have to strain to hear that...

Here's an example starting at 0:25 (and no, this song is not mine):
