Is it healthy for a fan base when they boo their starting Goaltender?

A prime example is with what is currently happening in Montreal with Carey Price.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I think it has a negative effect on the person and the game. Think about how easy it is to psych someone before a game just by walking up to them and saying "You don't look so hot", or "Are you sick? You look pale". Carey himself says in the video that he felt 'cursed'. If you also include the superstitions in hockey that go along with any negativity, that can really have a bad effect. I would never boo the team I came to support.

Back in 1988/89 I had season tickets to the Giants at Candlestick Park. I remember when they played against the Mets and Darryl Strawberry came up to bat. I had never heard an entire arena try to psych someone out at bat before like this. All you could hear was a slow repeat of his name "Daaaaaaa-rooooool" over and over, and it worked! Of course Mr. Strawberry was known recently in the papers for being a mean bully, and was recently involved in hitting his girlfriend/wife... I can't remember. Regardless, he was horrible in that game and I would tie it directly into the 'booing' of his name. At the very least it was a distraction!

So, with Carey Price... any booing would set a mood and tone for the game, regardless of intent. If you just want him to learn from his mistakes, I'd say make comments after the game. Booing gets nothing accomplished.
