Is it hard to type on the iPad touch keyboard?

How fast can you type on it? Does it have autocorrect?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I'll tell you on Wednesday when I get mine... but I've heard from journalists that it's not too bad (when "three-finger" typing instead of a full paw). They can type pretty fast and, yes, it has autocorrect.

I was surprised, though, that they didn't create a keyboard that was "bowed". Cranking my hands together seems tough enough with a standard keyboard. A digital keyboard can be manipulated and would probably be MUCH easier to user when at a similar angle as your hands/arms... or at least the OPTION to do so.

When the iPad is in horizontal-mode (landscape), the keyboard is easier to type on. The angle of the device and your posture also affects your ability to type. After about a day using the keyboard I can type 60 words per minute on it. In fact, I am typing a response to your question from my iPad right now. The keyboard is a little bit smaller than most, and at first it will feel like you cannot use all your fingers to type; but after a while it just works out.

In vertical-mode (portrait), I cannot type on the keyboard with both hands—my hands are too big and the keyboard is too small for that.

There is auto-correct on the iPad and in my opinion it is a lot better & faster than the iPhone or iPod Touch version. Like all devices it'll take a little getting used too; but eventually you'll be typing up a storm.

While I haven't had a chance to try out the iPad in person quite yet, I've heard that you can type about 50 words per minute comfortably. Since it has autocorrect, typing a little more slowly is probably a fair tradeoff for not having to go back and change letters around quite as often. I think you'll probably also be able to get way better at it if typing on the iPad is something you play to do frequently. I've seen people even type at reasonable speeds on an iPhone - they've just practiced and practiced and practiced.

Also, if you've tried typing on the iPad and you're sure it's not something you want to do on a regular basis, don't forget that you can use either a keyboard dock or a wireless Bluetooth keyboard. It seems that Apple has thought this through a little more than I was actually expecting that they would.
