Is it fair to hold school employees accountable for not noticing abuse when school is out?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

School employees should be held accountable for not reporting possible abuse, regardless if school is in or out of session, not necessarily for not noticing. However, this is a tricky question because many school districts in my area require home visits from school employees during the summer months. Therefore, how do you know when it's not noticed or if it is suspected and ignored? School employees may actually not have known, and then again you have some that are old school and believe that this is a family matter. If they suspect and don't report, hold them accountable, otherwise it is unethical to do so. Sometimes the signs of abuse are crystal clear, sometimes they are not. If a neighbor, friend, or any other person did not notice signs of abuse, they would not be held accountable. I do believe that more educators and the general public should be more extensively aware of the signs of abuse.

Once a teacher always a teacher. Just like a cop because they are off duty should they turn there eyes to abuse no.

Those children need our concern whenever and however we see them in any environment.
