Is it fair to give kids weird names?

Cute or unique spelling is annoying too, the poor kid will have to go through life trying to explain the spelling or pronouciation of their name for eternity.
BUT WORST OF ALL.. my sister works in Mental Health, she should know all this.. what was she thinking?
I feel these unique and weird names (as you call them) are a reflection on the parents need for attention and serve no purpose for the child.

M$You know what, I think it's odd but I also think it could make or break the child. Dweezil for example, come on, that guy must be either a complete mess or the 'strongest' guy around....maybe in the celebrity circle it isn't so hard to cope with, since celebrities aren't suppose to be normal right ???
Now when I was looking for a few names to answer this I came across a post by a girl called Azure, a normal person not a celebrity.
She said
"I would just like to say that half of the names on this page aren't even strange. I mean I grew up with the name Azure Blue. Not that I'm complaining b/c being common sucks"

So for her it was great having a strange name, it made her 'uncommon' and she sounds like she made it through OK :)
I wouldn't do it but I can see it's not always bad......you can always change it anyway :)

M$I should also note that no matter what name you give a child other children will find a way to make fun of it. Amanda has been one of the top 10 female names in America I don't know how many times.. and I got teased lots for my name as a child.
In short, I think it perfectly fair.
As a side note: My husband actually suggested Adolph for our current bun in the oven lol Before the man who killed millions, the name was actually a good one of strong Germanic decent.

ADOLF
Gender: Masculine
Usage: German, Dutch, Scandinavian, Czech, Ancient Germanic
Pronounced: AH-dawlf (German) key
From the Germanic name Adalwolf, which meant "noble wolf" from the Germanic elements adal "noble" and wulf. It was borne by several Swedish kings as a first or second name, most notably by Gustav II Adolf in the 17th century. Association with Adolf Hitler (1889-1945), the leader of the Nazi party in Germany during World War II, has lessened the use of this name.

M$Name the kid. Stick to the name. I think I'd avoid "Blanket," but are they calling him "Blankie" for short??? Celebrities are less at risk, but woe be unto the kid whose mom thought "Chandelier" sounded cool and inventive. Stop inventing. Please. "Channel" sounds nice too, but what future is in store for her? These are probably not the worst examples and the answer to the question is No! It is not fair to give kids weird names. It is self-indulgent, selfish, and uncaring.

M$I'm a stickler about baby names, though. If it isn't legitimate, you shouldn't be using it. Period. If you absolutely must, put it in the middle where it can be hidden.

M$I suppose parents should be allowed to name their kids whatever they want, within reason. I do remember hearing a story not too long ago about a couple who wanted to name their child Adolph Hitler (Whatever, I don't remember the last name), which certainly could mark the child for life! A court wouldn't allow it, with good reason.

M$If you name your child Joe, but Joe has so much meaning to you and your family, then it was the perfect choice. If you name your child Goofball, just because you thought it was funny, maybe you should think about that a bit first.
I named my son Joshua. Ok, I know. It's a very common name. However, when i was pregnant, what else could I do but watch a LOT of TV. One day I was watching the Ten Commandments. The old one. And I was watching the part that referred to Joshua. He was strong, courageous, compassionate and kind. As I was watching I thought about the type of man I would like my son to be. That was it. It was decided that day. It wasn't because I picked it out of a baby name book, but because it had an impact on me.
I think that most parents that choose crazy and outlandish names for their children are attention seeking. I only hope the children find the humor in it, and embrace their uniqueness.
