If you are referring to the Sichuan earthquake that happened on May 12, 2008, the answer is yes, it was deadly. The earthquake has a 7.9 magnitude that hit Sichuan Province a mountainous region in Western part of China. There were 70,000 people killed and left 18,000 missing. The province had over 15 million people which includes around 4 million in the city of Chengdu.
