2 years, 9 months ago about Duggars Pregnant Again

Is it dangerous to have 19 pregnancies? Michelle Duggar, mom of 18, is pregnant again.

Duggar announced her 19th pregnancy this morning on the ''Today'' show. She is 42 and has been pregnant for about 12 years of her life! Is this really risky?

According to Prete (2008), older moms can have healthy kids but the risk is increased for Down syndrome and the results are still not in for the overall development for a child born to a woman past 40. Recent studies have shown an increase in giving birth to the first child after 40. Dugger also has an increase in having an ectopic pregnancy or an increase in hypertension. Dugger and family have made their decision and the science now is irrelevant for her situation. Hopefully, for the sake of the child she is getting good prenatal care because she and the child will need it.

Carmelina Prete. (2008, September 26). Biological clock ticks longer; New StatsCan study shatters perception of older moms' risks. The Spectator,G.7. Retrieved September 3, 2009, from ProQuest Central.

Sir,
First of all, kudos to Michelle. However on the health part, I am not very sure. Pregnancy and delivery does take a lot out the mother. though a wanted pregnancy is a real psychological boost to the mother, physically it takes a lot out of her. With a supportive husband and a physically fit body, I think, go ahead Michelle

Wow, my mum had 7 of us, the first at 17 years and the last at 41 years.
All of us were very healthy.
My mum, is now 65 and a very young and active 65 at that...
My personal view is that some women actually benefit from all of those great hormones that are produced by the female body during pregnancy.
19 kids is a lot but as long as there are no health problems with the mother,
I don't see a problem.
There are so many tests available today to check the unborn foetus is not suffering a major birth defect etc...
With all of the medical help available these days, many women are not having their first child until their mid thirties and upwards.
In the old days, many women had 10 plus births, of course, many of the children died young as a result of not having medical facilities like we have available today.

Personal opinion...:)

Well I don't think there is a problem with that. Believe me my grandmother is a mother of 18 too. I didn't see any problems concerning her health until she dies at 84. The only problem is with the baby she has, it could be a menopausal baby.

I would venture a guess that there isn’t a huge amount of data around to study the health effects of having 19 kids, but there are certainly studies that show that health risks increase significantly over the age of 35. Risk of stillbirth, high blood pressure and birth defects all increase with age. The data would suggest that the Duggars are taking a significant risk by having their 19th child, but I think it’s also safe to say that they are a statistical anomaly already.

I would say that being pregnant for 18 times is itself quite a health hazard specially when she has started off at such an early age when her own body was not at all fully developed. She can age at a much pre-mature age and her body can also become weak eventually.
