Is it a good idea to get a dog from a rescue if there are young children in the home?
My husband and I have been discussing adopting a dog from a rescue. We would like to help out a dog that has been abandoned instead of getting a puppy. However, we have concerns because we have small children in our home.
Do rescue shelters do a good job screening each dog's behavior and personality? Will they be able to tell us that a certain dog will be good with our children? Is it a better idea to wait and get a rescued dog when our children are older?

Any dog can bite or attack when spooked. To see a dog's demeaner approach the dog. If it comes with it's tail wagging and it's eyes big then it is a good dog. If it's scowls, puts it's tail betweenit's legs move on. But sometimes this is fear so see if the dog is shaking, if it is then the dog was hit and this will actually be the best dog as it will appreciate your kindness. For kids stay with a medium size to larger as when they rough it up the dog won't mind so much. But shelters usually do a good job to weed out the rougher dogs and eliminate the vicious ones. So these are good dogs to adopt.
