Is inscape a good vector program? Downloads viruses? Work in CMYK? Disadvantages? Will i have to pay later for upgrades etc?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Yes Inkscape is a very good program and easy to use.
Very intuitive - I prefer it when I need to make SVG files - or vectorise a raster image.
Read about it and download it from here:
http://www.inkscape.org/
Advantages:
- free.. always
- can handle a staggeringly large number of points and vector entities with fast redraws.
- has many useful tools for example - curving a graphic along a line with intuiitve controls as well as the ability to piant with vectors. see image below.
- great tutorials aimed at beginners.
- very clear docs.
Disadvantages:
- if you are used to Adobe illustrator then the UI is different so something to learn there.
- saving in ai files is rudimentory but ai format is closed and illustrator can read svg files so converting between the two works pretty well.
There is a new release coming soon. It has better support for wacom tablets and a raft of new features.
For stability load the 0.47 release which is stable and works well. But many new sophisticated features in development builds. They can be simply installed from the development link on the download page

This looks like a raster image but it is a vector.
