Is horse riding hard?

How long does it take to learn how to ride a horse?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I absolutely love horses and horseback riding. I took formal lessons for about seven years. Riding is so rewarding physically and emotionally. A horse can be your best friend. They are truly amazing animals. Horseback riding just comes naturally to some, but as far as lessons go, the amount of time you are willing to put in will determine what you get out of it. It also depends on what exactly your goal in riding is. Just trail riding or riding for fun many only require a few lessons. However, if you want to begin showing you will need many years of lessons. There is always more to learn; you can never learn it all. You can always continue to improve your skills. Riding may be one of the most rewarding things you ever do.

It might seem like you're just sitting up on a horse, but there is a lot to learn in horse riding.
I have learned both english and western style of riding... and I would recommend to start out learning western first. I had an easier time learning english once I already had the basics down.

I think you'll feel like you have accomplished quite a bit just on your first day. I'd just start calling local equestrian places that aren't too far from where you live to get an idea of prices and times when you can learn. Horses are great animals to get to know and eventually work together with. Good luck!
