History says yes. In 1960, an earthquake in Chile caused a Tsunami that cost 61 lives in Hilo, Hawaii. California and the Pacific Coast also had Tsunami advisories. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Pacific Tsunami Monitoring Center monitors information from sensors in and on the ocean to determine the risk and issue appropriate advisories. Hawaii did experience a number of surges. The warning for Hawaii was lifted a short time ago.

Due to the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked Chile it is possible that Hawaii may be hit by a tsunami.

----quote----
U.S. Officials have been unable to reach at least three Americans working with the U.S. Embassy in Chile after a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Chile early this morning.
Tremor scared thousands, collapsed buildings and sparked tsunami warnings.

The quake killed a reported 214 and prompted tsunami warnings in areas as far away as the western coast of the United States and Hawaii.

Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other underwater explosions (detonations of nuclear devices at sea), landslides and other mass movements, bolide impacts, and other disturbances above or below water all have the potential to generate a tsunami.
