Here's why: if you're in a relationship that is already sexually active, then you should be giving 'great sex' to your boyfriend all the time, just as he should be to you. What constitutes 'great sex' to you and your boyfriend might be different than what it is to me or someone else, but it should be 'great' all the time, not JUST on his birthday.
So if someone is supposed to get great sex with their partner all the time when in a relationship, then giving them great sex for their birthday isn't really a gift at all, but rather, something they always can have, and should have.
A birthday gift should be something different, out of the ordinary. While sex might be a component of the birthday, or part of the festivities planned, or a perfect way to end a perfect birthday, it shouldn't be the only 'gift' given for a birthday to your partner.
To me, saying that 'sex' from your partner is a birthday gift is almost a bit conceited, as though he should be thankful you actually put yourself out and had sex with him.
Don't get me wrong. I love sex. My husband and I have a great sex life, but if he ever came to me and we made love and then he said, "That's your birthday gift from me, sex." I'd be quite upset!

M$My boyfriend's birthday was last month, I made up three little gift boxes, in each one I placed a little item. One box had a picture of breakfast which I had printed out, when he opened that one I gave him "surpirse" sex in the kitchen at breakfast.
I gave him the other two boxes and told him to open them only when I told him. The second had his business card in it, I called him at work and told him to open it and had "surprise" phone sex.

For me I think, sex as a birthday gift will always be welcomed and accepted by anyone specially by your love one... Plan for that special night... A candlelit dinner, wine and the works... and then a scattered rose leading to the bedroom with scented candles and a soothing sound is a plus! From there i know you do it by yourself :p

M$it really depends on the couple. But really sex should be given as a "free" gift naturally. Does that mean on regular days you do not have great sex. You should try to have great sex every single time is my opinion. Why dont you combine it with a gift maybe book a weekend trip away somewhere and surprise him with it and take him out for a nice meal or have the hotel bring food up to the room like champagner and strawberries :)

I strongly agree with this answer. While I'm all in favor of sex, a birthday gift should be something that is unusual and reasonable for a once per year event. Sex should be a lot more often than once per year and you should always aim to make it great. Now if he was not your boyfriend, that might make it a unique and rare birthday gift.
