is Google really searching the full text of indexed books from Google Books, when you issue a normal search query
(without specifying +site:books.google.com) or going to google book search site.
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Yes it is, though matches in books rarely make it to the front page.
Try typing "shadows he thought" (with the quotes) into Google.
One of the matches on the front page is:
http://books.google.com/books?id=dvQbGVVYfRsC&pg=PA1&lpg=PA1&dq=%22shadows+he+thought%22&source=bl&ots=nG_93MpsYK&sig=0OmgMm5pQccEq-VWMwDB2nFpz3s&hl=en&ei=eLQFSsSON6KOjAeAhbnjBA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=9
