Is google evil?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I am not sure that they are evil.
They are not quite what most people assume though.
Google are an advertising company that has developed a huge range of additional products and services that are 'free'. The 'free' bit is of course that they advertise in these free services.
For instance, gmail is a fantastic free e-mail service, but, you get advertising - albeit incredibly subtly, the google search engine has adwords and so and an so-forth.
They also collect vast amounts of information on everyone, the searches that we run, the maps we use and even the e-mails we get. This information is used to target the adverts that we see.
is this evil or insanely smart ?
I personally feel that it is insanely smart, but I understand the 'evil' stance too.
