Is Final Fantasy XIII a good game?
I've heard a lot about Final Fantasy XIII, but am somewhat hesitant to buy it. I've heard both good and bad things about it. Is the Playstation XIII game any good? Do I need to know the story of previous games of the series to understand any of it? I mostly enjoy hack-n-slash games like God of War 3, and graphically impressive games like Heavy Rain, and Metal Gear Solid 4, but I don't like the puzzles of the earlier God of War games. Also Bayonetta and Devil May Cry 4 somehow didn't really do it for me.
Is Final Fantasy XIII a game for me?

Personally, I LOVE Final Fantasy XIII - but I think it depends on what you look for in a game.
From what you have posted you like graphically impressive games. Final Fantasy XIII (In fact, all of the FF's for when they were brought out) are amazingly crisp and impressive. The PS3 version is pretty much the best for this.
You mentioned you don't like the puzzles of earlier GoW games. The puzzles (what little there are) in FFXIII are mostly easy to work out, and require little/no effort. They also often don't feel like a puzzle, but more part of an experience (a la, GoW III)
You mentioned liking the hack and slash of GoW III - The action is a little slower in FFXIII, but once you get the hang of the combat system, I think you will find that it is an amazing system.
Finally you mentioned not liking the overly stylized crazy action of DMC and Bayonetta. That's fine, FFXIII is very structured and not frenzied at all.
From everything you have told me, I don't doubt that you will like FFXIII - Especially since you don't have previous FF knowledge - The game's first many hours are specifically designed for newer people to get familiar with the game.
Understand that in parts the game is quite tough, and will challenge your skills. Your inability to physically move the character during battles may also feel quite frustrating.

Thanks for your detailed reaction. I'm currently playing God of War 3, but I now know what my next game will be!
Sorry, I was sure I voted your answer 'best', but somehow I voted 'No Best'. I've sent you a M$1 tip as compensation.
