Is fiction easier to write than non-fiction?

What websites, forums or blogs discuss if fiction or non-fiction is easier to write? Are more fiction or non-fiction books published each year?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

While I will do my best to answer your question about whether it is easier to write fiction or non-fiction it is important to keep in mind that the answer is subjective and there is no black and white answer and everyone is going to have a different opinion. Fiction is always fictitious and some people have problems expanding their minds to wrap around fictional words and characters and developing plots that are not real even if they have connects to real places, people or events. Nonfiction is always a record of a real person, event or place and has it's basis in fact or an opinion of the facts, since, truth has a million shades of gray. Therefore each has it's pros and cons and it really depends on the writer and the stories they have to tell that determine which is easier or harder of if they have the same level of difficulty. I was unable to find any blogs on this specific subject matter though. Also, there are about an equal number though fiction books are more sought after by far.

Some people find fiction easier than non-fiction. Some think it’s the exact opposite. It depends on the person and their reason for writing. Most writing takes place in school, so that may not be a good example, since it’s almost always non-fiction essays and most students probably don’t want to do much of any homework as assigned.
What is it you want to say? What idea are you inspired to communicate? Perhaps poetry is the best way to express your idea. That would mean fiction. Perhaps an editorial for the local newspaper is the best vehicle for your idea. That means non-fiction. So write that. Many writers move back and forth between fiction and non-fiction, sometimes writing in a journal the ideas they have that day and then eventually, those written works become fiction.

Helium.com is a great forum to join if you are interested in learning about writing fiction or nonfiction. Writersweekly.com is an actual job portal for writers who wish to write both fiction pieces and nonfiction pieces. Writing fiction is not necessarily harder or easier to write than nonfiction. Nonfiction is essentially writing the truth or writing done after extensive research and analysis has been compiled. For example, a book about the impact that historical baseball players had on the economy is an example of nonfiction. A how-to book is another example of nonfiction. This is more specific and research based. On the other hand, fiction is based upon the imagination. Romance novels and sci-fi are common examples of fiction. Fiction is based on your creativity and a story that you would like to tell. It is easier in that there is no structural format to follow as non-fiction, but your mind has to be fertile and you need to know how to tell a great story that is emotionally charged and realistic so your audience will enjoy the book.
