Is fabric softener toxic?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Technically, yes...But IMHO, the exposure levels would have to be fairly large and likely ingested...Here is a list of just some of the chemicals found in fabric softeners and dryer sheets:
https://shop.sixwise.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID;=92
* Benzyl acetate: Linked to pancreatic cancer
* Benzyl Alcohol: Upper respiratory tract irritant
* Ethanol: On the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste list and can cause central nervous system disorders
* Limonene: Known carcinogen
* A-Terpineol: Can cause respiratory problems, including fatal edema, and central nervous system damage
* Ethyl Acetate: A narcotic on the EPA's Hazardous Waste list
* Camphor: Causes central nervous system disorders
* Chloroform: Neurotoxic, anesthetic and carcinogenic
* Linalool: A narcotic that causes central nervous system disorders
* Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled

As an adult I'm not to worried about it. For very quickly growing children, any potential and avoidable hazard to those rapidly multiplying cells, I would be very cautious.

Well you should not go drinking it but it's not toxic. Of course everything in enough quantity is toxic. Case in point the lady who killed herself drinking water for a game console.
