you should cover all your electronics when working with Drywall. Drywall dust sticks everywhere and if it get to the insides of electronics, these will overheat when working. I usually use 0.7 mil plastic cover. Is cheap and do the job. Be especially careful when sanding the drywall compound, the dust will get everywhere. Good luck in your project!

Any dust is bad for electronics. Dust can plug vents and it can also cause all sorts of miscellaneous problems like if dust gets into the disk drives and such. Just keep the electronics away from the dust or if you can't move them, cover.

I would highly recommend covering all your electronic devices in plastic. There were some lengthy renovations to a kitchen where I was living and although only two walls were moved the amount of drywall dust was incredible! It really does get everywhere.

My computer was not covered. The fan in my desktop ended up having some problems. We eventually took apart my desktop and vacuumed the entire thing out. Everything was thickly covered in drywall dust. That particular desktop is still working 3 years later but it's not worth the chance of damage or the difficulty of cleaning up to not cover things.

Drywall dust is definitely bad for your electronics. Even though the actual dust is non-conductive, it can coat heatsinks (reducing their effectiveness greatly) and foul fans and other small, moving parts, particularly optical drives. If you get it on the lens it may damage the laser, and if it's in your trays, it may scratch your DVDs. We all know that Xbox's don't need any help in getting the red-ring of death, so cover them up, or move them completely out of the room!
