Is cord blood banking worth the cost? Is it a scam? Did you do it?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Jason, I know you (and your wife) are expecting, and I would highly recommend banking the cord blood. We banked with CBR, which is the oldest cord blood bank in the country.
Their reputation is very good, and their service was first class, both times I used them. I live in Alaska, so it isn't the closest place to a cord blood banking facility... but both times it worked really well. Just one phone call and it is done.
I would suggest you talk to your doctor about this, since it does require some involvement from him/her too. But at CBR, everything comes with a kit, and very clear instructions as to what to do.
I highly recommend it. It is not a scam (at least not with CBR) and it does work (see video link in sources). You can also follow them on Twitter or contact them there. If you want more information on how this worked for me, contact me on Twitter @chrisbeks

M$The option was still very new here in Canada 4 years ago when my wife and I had our first. It was prohibitively expensive and complicated then.
Today, I say do it. Every piece of research that I have read on the topic says that it "could" be one of the most valuable things that you ever spend money on.
We spend thousands of dollars on insurance possessions every year. It makes sense to me that this type of insurance could be equally as valuable. Much like insurance, I would hope to never use it, but the value could be immeasurable.
So yup... bank that up :)

M$We do not regret it one bit.We now have 3 children which can all use it if need be.We used Cryocell. We pay a yearly storage fee. Yes,It is worth EVERY PENNY!!!
It is not a scam. Your OBGYN has to draw the blood from the cord directly after delivery.A vial is drawn from your wife also for a sample of her blood. The kit is sent to you way ahead of time. You need to overnight courier it back to the company after it is completed and sealed.
