Is Congress going to let its members get a pay raise this year? Should they?
1 1/2 months ago, Anon asked if Congress had voted itself a pay raise. I gave a somewhat-lengthy answer that indicated that a 2010 pay raise was still pending, and that a bill introduced by Republican Ron Paul and Democrat Harry Mitchell to block it had been introduced. (That answer has an explanation of the history and process of congressional COLA's.)
This weekend, I had a chance to speak with Mitchell (my Congressman) and he indicated that it was still an open question and that they were still working on blocking it. There are now 129 additional co-sponsors (not counting Paul and Mitchell).
I sat down at the keyboard to update Mahalo, checked Mitchell's website, and found that Mitchell and Paul JUST (on Friday) sent a letter to the House Budget Committee Chair (John Spratt alerting him to the bill and asking him to quash the COLA increase. http://mitchell.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=782&Itemid=80
Soooooo, do you think that Congress should see their paychecks go up this coming (fiscal) year??? Will you take any action to lobby against it?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.
