Scientists have shown that there are some addictive effects of chocolate on people. If one will consume 8 or more chocolate bars a week and then you may be addicted to it.

Chocolate eating becomes addictive when a person cannot control the craving for this substance. Some will feel they cannot avoid consuming chocolate even they wish to.

Several studies and research have been carried out in order to find out the real effect of chocolate on people, physically and psychologically.

Chocolate contains substances are known to cause pleasure feeling in the brain. These substances are theobromide, anandamin and tryptophan will trigger the brain to release mood enhancing chemicals. Therefore people who consume this will experience feelings of euphoria, pleasure and relaxation.

Scientists also have identified that chocolate contains substances that imitate marijuana effects. They claim that chocolate consumers may feel 'high' just like after having smoked marijuana.

Moreover, chocolates was found to have stress-relieving characteristics so people under a lot of stress may be more addicted to it than others.

If you think about it in your sleep and you eat more than 10 a day, then you're addicted. You'll know it when you feel it.

A person can over indulge in pretty much anything, even chocolate. It's fine to eat some daily, just as long as you don't substitue it for meals. Many people drink coffee daily, it's basically a similar idea - a little pick me up in the morning. Chocolate increases the endorphins (happy hormones) and it is good thing to have a little of it every day.

I actually read this about 10 years ago in a book by Dean Ornish, he's a Doctor in California. He writes books about how to keep your heart healthy and he focuses a lot on diet modifications. I liked the books of his which I read.

I guess it's only a mental addiction we have with chocolate, even if it does contain caffeine, it's only present with a tiny bit of amount.
Chocolate is the "feel good food", eating chocolate makes us feel happy and relax --> whether you want to put this credit on chemical or just the texture and taste of chocolate.

Chocolate can be addictive. A craving for a food on a daily basis can be considered to be an addiction. For someone who has a medical issue that affects their serotonin level such as in people who suffer from depression, chocolate can be a common addiction as chocolate increases the level of serotonin in the brain.
Some people have given the name "chocoholic" to people with an addiction to chocolate.
