Is Chinese Internet censorship really effective? Difficult to bypass Chinese filters?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As long as one has a proxy to mask which country the user is from, Chinese censorship is basically moot. However, I'm not familiar with how effectively they block proxy sites or proxies themselves.

So if you live in China, you can easily access an uncensored version of Google.com?
http://www.google.com/intl/zh-CN/
Correct?
If you apply a proxy (which is basically a mask on your browser), you can access any site you want. There's an Italian MTV site that can only be visited by people in the country. Slap on a proxy that's based in Italy, and voila - instant access to the site.
