Instead, let's consider whether Cheerios - an oat cereal - should be considered a "medication" or "medical remedy".
The obvious answer is no. It is first and foremost a food for nourishment and enjoyment. It is made and manufactured by a food company. The fact that it has side benefits, I don't think, should qualify it as a medical remedy.
If we're going to call Cheerios as medication because of claims of side benefits, then watch out, following industries, you're next!:

You would hope in this case it goes to whoever is right. IS it "clinically proven" to lower cholesterol or is General Mills blowing smoke?
"Clinically proven" is the most overused phrase on commercials. I'm sure that General Mills can set up a lab procedure to prove that it lowers cholesterol. If they wanted to, they could also prove that it helps you grow gills so you can live underwater.
I'd rather put stock in what the FDA says, rather than a corporation.
