Is cheering for a black president (simply because he's black) discriminant and/or racist?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Cheering for a president is always a good thing even if you disagree with him or her. Just because he's black doesn't make everything racist that happens around him. As Dr. King said (paraphrased) We should live in a color blind world. That goes both ways.

Supporting our president would always be a good thing, but the nation being in tears because of the fact that we finally elected a black president... Does that not make us a country full of racist biggots? Not to mention that race was pretty much all that was covered by the news on election night. I agree that we should live in a color blind world, and my opinion is that we reacted in a racist manor to the events of election night. Agree or disagree? (I'll go ahead and specify that I am demecrotic, not racist and have absolutely nothing against Obama)

Of course, doing anything based simply on a person's race/color is racist. That's the very definition of it. And I'd say it *could* be discriminatory if you don't also cheer everyone else based on their color/race.

Yes I think if your cheering for somebody ONLY because he's black would be racists against the white person, Just like voting against somebody ONLY because they are black is racist.

If you are talking about Obama, I was personally cheering for him because he was a better candidate but I was also aware of the significance of a Black person being elected and what that means for freedom, because if any group of people have fought for freedom, its the black man, and they appear to have reached that mountaintop that they have been seeking... I wouldn't call myself, or anybody a racist for cheering for Barack Obama.

/but if the were voting against McCain because he was white, that is racist...Good question though...making me think here.

Racist is defined as hating someone because of their race. It might be racially bias, but not racist.

Racist is defined as: discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion
By: wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

Discriminatory is defined as: Able to perceive, or showing fine distinctions; Showing prejudice or bias
By: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/discriminatory

To summarize, Racist is defined as treating someone different because of their race or religion. "Hate" has nothing to do with it.

It is not discriminatory as you would be cheering for, however it is racist because you are doing it based o the fact that he is "black".
