I use to drink it in my younger days with coke since it was easy to find, usually the only spiced rum found and cheap.
You would be better off spending a few dollars more and purchasing a finer spiced rum such as The Lash, Cruzan's 9 spiced. Old New Orleans Cajun spiced, Brinley's spiced or Foursquare spiced rum. Produced using natural as oppossed to artificial flavors and spices and in smaller quantities, while not forgoing quality will suit your tastebuds alot better than the Captain.
You may even want to try making your own spiced rum, which is easy and you can control the flavor of the spiced rum as well. Using spices like, juniper, cloves, allspice, innamon bark, nutmeg and natural vanilla by adding them to a bottle of rum and let them soak for awhile will add the flavor of the spices to the vanilla. The longer you keep the spices in the bottle, the more pronounced the flavor will be. Because of this be careful with clovs and cinnamon bark as they are ver strong spices that will intensify the longer they remain in contact with your newly created spiced rum.
