It depends what you‘re comparing it to. In terms of cities similar to its size, Boston is an expensive city. Part of the reason for that is its attraction. Boston attracts many people because of its history, culture, colleges, sports and scenery. As a result, many people want to live either in or near Boston. This demand drives prices up.
While the cost of living isn’t as outrageous as living in New York or on the west coast, rent and real estate are high due to the demand. I will say that when it comes to entertainment and dining, Boston isn’t as bad as the big cities. In fact, you can find some great places to go to and it won’t cost you much. However, if you want to live in the city, it will cost you a pretty penny.
