Is blogging here to stay or will it be a short term fad?

Blogging for businesses is fairly new, but will it be a long term business strategy or not?
Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hey there Santam,

The question of blogging's longevity is a good one. Today, blogs, bloggers and blogging have become such a part of everyone's daily consumption of news and information--even in print form in many cases--that their very existence is taken for granted.

But that's probably part of the answer; with blogs being an affixed part of much of the world's culture, can it ever be severed? I believe it can, in a way.

Anyone remember the LaserDisc? How about stereo tape decks? Although they enjoyed their own popularity, the two are hard to find in our activities as consumers today. While each had their technical failings, it wasn't logistical shortcomings alone that led to their eventual extinction. Neither is their absence owed to the world's severance of its need for theatrical or musical entertainment. Largely, it's because those needs of ours evolved past the offerings of the LaserDisc and audio cassette--and are in fact still evolving.

Blogs and blogging may simply be today's phase of our evolutionary need to consume news and information; a phase that, unlike that which concluded the LaserDisc era of the mid 80's, may not necessarily mean the elimination, but the inclusion of prior forms of info-sources.

In any event, our needs will continue to evolve, allowing for the introduction and acceptance of new ways to consume info. Whether or not that evolution will include blogging is hard to say, but I think blogs are an affixed part of today's news and info culture for good reasons and are capable of evolving along with our needs for a long while.

So not a fad, perhaps, but a long-term phase.

I think blogging is a tool that will be around for awhile. One of the reasons why is because there are a lot of companies who are successful because of this tool. I also feel that blogging will become a wave of a future is because there are a variety of online blogging jobs where companies are willing to pay people to blog about different aspects of their website.

Being that people are looking to earn income outside of their regular job, blogging can provide a potential stream of supplemental income. With so many people looking to be more independent and seeking additional sources of income, blogging and other online jobs will continue to become increasingly popular simply because more people do not want to totally rely on the income from one job for the rest of their working lives.

Hia Santam!

I think business blogging is great for any company. It helps to highlight the business itself as well as the atmosphere within a company. I think time and dedication is an answer to your question. Larger companies can afford to employ one or two people to continuously spend time on a business blog, ensuring important and interesting up-to-date information is posted on their blog, that keeps people interested. As to the smaller companies... again I think it involves dedication, as to whether or not a company continues to blog. I have seen a couple of small company blogs that are not posted on a regular occasion and others that keep their blog fun an interesting on a regular basis. Blogging will definitely work greatly as a long term business strategy for many companies, and less for others.
