Is band class mostly hands-on learning?
Will there be a lot of textbook reading for my band class or will it mostly be practicing my instrument? Are there a lot of tests that I need to worry about taking?

Band usually doesn't consist of text books and test taking. You will learn how to play the instrument you choose and sheet music. Your test so to speak, will be concerts and solo performances. In high school band, you will also play in marching band. You will also play for sporting events, as well as parades, marching band competitions, and for your school. All you will need to do is practice and learn your sheet music and you will do great.
Other items you will need for band, that include marching band are: uniform, dress pants or skirt, white top, items to clean the instrument you choose, and carrying case. While practicing for marching band make sure you drink plenty of water and take breaks. Have fun with it, band is a great learning experience.
