In the early James Bond movies and almost all of of Ian Fleming’s books, James Bond drove British automobiles.
In the very first books and movies (Dr. No in 1962 and From Russia with Love in 1963), James Bond drove around luxury cars – a Sunbeam Alpine and a Bentley in the two movies respectively.
It was in Goldfinger, that James Bond started driving around in what came to be a signature car – the Aston Martin DB5. Bond drove this car in Goldfinger and Thunderball. He continued the British sports car theme with a Lotus Esprit in The Spy Who Loved Me.
While Bond certainly drove around in various German cars in many of the movies, German cars got a much higher profile in 1994 in GoldenEye when Bond was featured in a BMW Z3. BMWs continued to get focus in Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough.
In the two most recent films, Bond is back driving an Aston Martin again.
