Is Aston Martin owned by any other company?

Or is it and independently owned company?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hey bocca8,

I fielded an Aston Martin question earlier today which got me curious enough to read more than I would have probably ever read on Aston Martin. Turns out quite a few owners have passed the company around. Most of them were names I had not heard of. All except one. In the process I was flat out SHOCKED to find out that from 1991 to 2007 Aston Martin was owned by FORD!

It was just hard for me to believe that the company that produced the Taurus, the Explorer, and the Focus owned the brand associated with the likes of 007. Nothing against Ford you understand. It’s just like finding out that McDonald’s just bought Wolfgang Puck’s brand. I just don’t expect to crane my neck around Flo’s beehive to get a look at the lit up menu only to find Blue Lump Crab Cakes with sweet corn relish and roasted red pepper remoulade right next to the Big Mac Meal. I digress.

If Ford was a strange enough owner of the Aston Martin brand, they almost sold it to Louis Vuitton. Luxury car, with matching handbag.....yeah, I dunno. While it was reported that Vuitton did bid on the company in February of 2007, he didn't win.

In March of 2007 Ford officially announced that it was selling Aston Martin to Prodrive, an investment group led by founder and chariman, David Richards, and John Sinders, an Aston Martin collector and backer of Aston Martin racing. Aston Martin was sold for a reported $925 million. Prodrive is one of the world’s leading motorsport and automotive technology companies.
