Is arthritis a curable health condition?

Are there any new treatments for arthritis? Are there over-the-counter medications for joint pain? At what age should I suspect arthritis?

There are several different forms of arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis can be treated (with some success) with immune suppressing medications. Psoriasis related arthritis and osteoarthritis can be treated with physical therapy, strength training and aerobic exercises and pain medications. Rheumatoid arthritis cannot be cured. Psoriasis related arthritis and osteoarthritis can only be cured with joint replacement surgery.

As arthritis is such a common ailment, new medications for treating the pain of all types of arthritis are being developed all the time.

There are effective over-the-counter medications for osteoarthritis and psoriasis related arthritis. Tylenol Arthritis works longer and slightly better on arthritis pain. Ibuprofen, which reduces joint inflammation, is also effective against arthritis pain.

It is possible to develop any sort of arthritis at any age. You’re more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis at a young age. There is a genetic component. If your mother and grandmother developed arthritis at an early age, chances are good you will too.

Did you know that there are more than 100 types of arthritis? Common arthritis symptoms of inflammation, pain, and stiffness are usually caused by degenerative arthritis (osteoarthritis). Other types of arthritis include rheumatoid arthritis and gout. No matter which type of arthritis you have, you need an accurate diagnosis before your doctor can recommend a program for treatment.
