Is Apple the new Microsoft?

With more and more people drooling over their products and hopping on the bandwagon, it's only a matter of time before we see mass exploits against Mac OS and for everyone to start hating them like they hated Microsoft not so long ago... right?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This is a very interesting question. With Microsoft’s history of problems and security issues with its products, they continually leave a door wide open for invasion by other companies like Apple. BUT, over all this time it has not happened in any significant manner. Linux though FREE in many cases and an excellent OS, with an abundance of apps and development on the platform most of which is also FREE, did not unseat Microsoft. Apple has been around at least as long as Microsoft (actually longer) and has yet to unseat Microsoft (in fact it almost disappeared years ago).

Apple has come a long way and arguably has a more stable OS, but Microsoft still has the OS that the majority of developers and 3rd parties are writing and developing on. Microsoft has such a strong and overwhelming position in homes and business that it will take something astounding for any other OS and software company to upset the "apple cart" that Microsoft owns.

Apple is once again rising up and coming in strong with a loyal following and if they continue to diversify and grow who knows what they might accomplish versus Microsoft. The exploits against Microsoft are due to a number of reasons that Apple and others do not share.
Microsoft releases:
* have and continue to be, sloppy, loose, and prone to errors and exploits that they then fix with their continuous updates and fixes and upgrades ...
* are a target by a large number of Hackers and intruders because of their sloppy releases and security holes
* are a target due to their large install base and the ease of which in a base install (which is most cases on personal as well as business computers) their OS and software can be hacked.
* Inherent dislike by a body of very talented and disgruntled groups against Microsoft who target Microsoft as a way of expressing their displeasure
* Microsoft development platform makes it easy to develop software etc but in doing so also makes it easy for these 3rd party developments to also be sloppy and exposed to attacks.
* Many other unique attributes of Microsoft leave them both a target and an easy exploit; unfortunately the list could go on.

Apple I do not believe would relish toppling or replacing Microsoft, Apple has its niche and it’s off shoots and by playing off of Microsoft is successful in growing and maintaining their market and loyalty.

This may not be the case. Apple may focus in media like music and whatnot, Microsoft has a game console and has Windows. It is all in a matter of opinion. Mine is with Microsoft because I like what you can do with it. Windows has so much. It is incredible for it to work with so many parts out there, like people customizing their PCs. It has come so far, does a lot, and many do not know it.

Well, Apple is more closed. And there are some Apple haters out there right now:

So in terms of hating, I guess this might as well come true
