Is anyone else sick of this whole, "OMG... I love Edward Cullen" fad?
However, I feel like I can't go anywhere anymore without some girl talking on the phone, or yapping up her friend about how much she loves Edward Cullen, and how much Edward Cullen has changed their lives. It is starting to piss me off on many levels. I mean, PLEASE STFU ALREADY!
The main reason it p****s me off is because its pretty clear the vast majority of these girls only claim to be in love with love him because its suddenly the cool thing to do. The whole gentleman, dark and complicated, yet charming vampire routine has been done 1000 times over... Actually, I think Twilight stole the plot from a porn movie I watched in 9th grade and just took out all the sex scenes. The book just so happen to catch on like a boy band or any other trend. .. In my eyes he is no different than Furbys or Hanson.
Okay, so you think its a good book... fine. You like the character...great. But for suddenly form an unhealthy addiction to a guy which you probably would laugh at if you saw in real life is ridiculous. Would you really pretend to be that obsessed over him if Twilight was just some book you picked up that nobody else had heard of? No, of course not, your friends would think you were silly and rather insane.
In reality Edward Cullen would be the equivilent of a ***** emo panzy who wears sparkles and is hopped up on pain killers and crystal meth. Ironically he posseses some of the least desirable traits that women would have previously listed for a boyfriend. He is clingy, pale, cold and uncuddleable, overly-controlling, and most of all he can't have sex. Also, if I were to drive like him with a girl in the car I am positive I would get nothing but backseat driving barking in my ear to slow down.
Now, I am pretty sure that while Cullen may somehow look good on paper, if it were to come down between this whimsical fictionaly vampire fairy boi who is leading you on and won't touch you and..a real man who burps, farts, but can rail you until your eyes cave in yet is still caring and loving at the same time... it wouldn't even be a question that you'd choose the later. Sure you might say..."But if I were with Edward i wouldnt' need sex, hes soooo dreammy."
But I say... I haven't met a virgin girl since my senior year of highschool...everyone gets urges.
BTW, I would take a Blade or a Kate Beckinsale in Underworld vampire over one like this cullen tool anyday. The whole badass vampire gone semi-good but still badass is so much more of a turnon than the whole sparkly fairyprincess look at me plot.
In conclusion to this entirely too long rant... I basically cannot wait until this fad blows over and girls in this country stop acting like stupid preadolescent fan girls with a boyband crush. Anyone agree?

Both Edward and Bella have faulty characters by literary standards. Edward's is too ideal (Hot + Rich + Smart + Sensitive = You know it's fiction), while Bella's is simply too vague to define. The biggest Edward turnoff for a lot of people is probably the fact that a creature supposedly all-powerful and unafraid of death is suddenly simpering and lovestruck over a girl who lacks Vitamin D. And the fact that his pick-up lines are straight out of Animal Planet.
I know Edward's supposed to be (un)dead and all, but it would really have been appreciated if Meyer had given him more character depth than Dora the Explorer. And even if Bella has enough insecurities for the two of them, his having some non-romantic sensibilities would really help his case.

M$I'd have to disagree. There are plenty of guys who profess their undying love to girls.
Girls generally refer to this as creepy.
The point wasn't that he was professing his undying love. The point was that Edward Cullen is suppose to be the "end all be all of men" and he chose a plain girl as his love. It's the chubby girl, the plain girl or the misunderstood girl's fantasy. It's why the series is so popular, because in reality it would never happen. But t because of the books these young girls can project themselves onto Bella and pretend that they most desirable man in the world wants them.

M$For each of the sexes, there are certain stereotypical features and behaviors that are characteristic. Women tend to be smaller, less muscular, and more socially and emotionally aware. Men tend to be hairier, stronger, more technically inclined, and more individualistic. These are just tendencies, however, and the variation among men and women in these traits may be larger than the variation between the two sexes. In other words, the two most different guys may be more different than the average guy and average girl. These differences arise from a physiological difference in our bodies. The higher levels of the hormone testosterone in men is responsible for many of the characteristic features of men, called the primary and secondary sexual characteristics. Among men, higher levels of testosterone makes the related characteristics more pronounced - more body hair, deeper voice, stronger muscles, and perhaps more individualistic and thrill-seeking behavior.
Now, because women and men have developed as a species to be interdependent, and because men were traditionally necessary to protect the women from other warring tribes and to do the hard manual labor necessary to live in prehistoric times, men with more testosterone(and women who sought them out) were more successful in finding a mate and raising large families than those with less. To the extent which this behavior is inheritable, this testosterone-seeking trait was more likely to be passed on to their children, and their children were more likely to pass it on as well. Over time, this created an instinct in women to seek out reckless, individualistic, thrill-seeking men.
In modern days, men are no longer required to protect their tribe from other warring tribes, or if they are, physical strength isn't the determinant of the outcome. However, this change has occurred very recently relative to the time over which physical prowess was a determinant of success, so there just hasn't been enough time for the instinct to fade yet. That's why girls still like bad boys. They're unconsciously or consciously seeking out those traits which are indicative of high testosterone, greater physical strength, and risk-taking behavior.
Exactly what traits are determinants for success in the modern era isn't yet known. Obviously, risk-taking behaviors are still useful, intelligence is becoming more important, but intelligence isn't favored as strongly as you might wish. Current medical technology and social programs distort which behaviors are more likely to lead to people having more offspring which live to reproductive age. Our society has evolved past the point at which natural selection determines our future, and we can now choose where we'd like to end up. We can now take care of those who are weaker and less fortunate, and this is a good thing. This is where intelligence and foresight have to become involved to properly direct the next stage of human evolution.

M$Best of luck in your obsession to figure out what edward cullen has that us regular guys don't have.

Oh come on! Its a book, and we are all entitled to lose our self in a book! I for one am not obsessed with him, and can tell the difference between a real man and a fictional character, however I can see why so many like the character. I really enjoyed the books, and thought the character was very interesting, this does not mean I am clinging onto a fad, it just so happens i enjoy a BOOK. And yeah its a fantasy, isin't the point of a book, to have it so descriptive you end up feeling like your there??? I am no young girlie who dreams of her own Edward, and I sure ain't no "Mother", I'm just one of many who can agree when a good book comes out.
