Is anyone else sick of the bigotry spouted by certain people on this site?

Should they have a right to spew their hatred here? Do you think they are just trolls, trying to stir up problems, or are they really as full of hatred as they seem?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

Am I sick of it? Yes. I haven't seen it that often, but it's always unpleasant to read. It's like comments sections on Web sites, though -- like a train wreck, you cannot look away. I always read comments. It's a horrible habit.

As far as whether they have a right, there are two ways to look at it. On the one hand, people have free speech; on the other hand, Mahalo and Conundrum Land are private sites, with their own terms of service that explicitly prohibit this. So I'm on the side that no, they shouldn't be allowed to say hateful things.

So I report them whenever I find them. It's the best way to deal with things. If they're trolling, they want a reaction, so don't give them one. Just mark it, move on, and don't let it get to you. That way, they can't win.

Hi @dsaldridge I am not really sick of it as much as sadly used to it. I guess anyone and everyone has a "right" to spew whatever they like here as long as it does not violate the tos but the terms of service are here to protect us and not give people the "right" do be jerks or recklessly say hateful things so I think if you find anyone has crossed the line .. they might be over the "harassment" or "abuse" line and therefore in violation of the tos.

Take a look at this from the terms of service
"You must not use the Services to abuse, harass, threaten, impersonate, intimidate or otherwise violate the legal rights (including rights of privacy and publicity) of others."

It is up to each of us individually how we will define "abuse" and "harassment" so if you or anyone feels someone is being abusive or harassing then report them to Mahalo staff.
That report is not being a tattle, it is protecting the Mahalo community.

And yes they are *usually* being trolls and trying to start trouble but not always.. sometimes the differing of opinions makes all the difference in the whether or not something is hateful or just the polar opposite viewpoint, we can always tell the difference.. but that is worth noting.

I like to think nobody is FULL of hate and I might seem naive but I have hope for all of us having the ability to never be hateful at all.. we all have the potential, some just choose not to live up the more tolerant and accepting attitude I think they are capable of.

as I said in the beginning.. I am sadly well past "sick of it" and well into "used to it"

I do report it when it crosses the line. Sometimes, I just laugh, but sometimes it is just hate speech, plain and simple.

I've reported some hate speech I've seen this person has written so it's up to the community manager to take action or not with this person. Yes, I've sick of seeing bigotries in this community. I know there are a lot of bigots out there, but this person taints the community we build here and ruin the good names of Conundrumland site, so I hope the community manager will at least warn that person.

I agree with Vic. I see that it is particularly one person that seems to be rather mean, offensive and rude and I'm thankful that he/she only appears once in awhile. They wrote something nasty on here in answer to a question I asked. At first, I was a little taken back by it and upset by it. Then, I figured, well I'm glad he/she got it out of their system. lol

This site is a place where we can tell our thoughts and give our opinions. Most of us do just that, in a kind sort of way. Unfortunately, there is one person that doesn't know how to do that and I just ignore them. :-)

Sometimes it seems that there are answers meant to be offensive and rude. I have noticed. The person I see that comes on and does it is a rare appearance and thankfully so.

I don't think I really saw any of that on here, but I am kinda new...I think sometimes that people who write stuff thats kinda just hateful, are just really blunt.
I mean if they were to go all out and just bring down an opinion so harshly and offensively then yeah thats a bit much. But I think some people say like a line or two thats like so blunt and rash it's almost funny, because they know it. They know what they say are going to get comments for it, but they still do it. I almost sometimes think they do it, for fun.

Idk I kind of laugh and then if it gets long and serious I kinda don't.

I think sometimes if they ask questions that are hateful...I think it's because their venting and just maybe someone feels the same way. But then a lot of people don't and could take offense easily. I let people speak their mind knowing that in some retrospect i know they know what they are saying isn't the most nice thing. And if it's enough to piss someone off, then hey report it because they shouldn't say anything that should make someone that mad.

I don't think I've really seen it here on CL maybe it's on the Mahalo side I don't know because I don't go there. But if you want to see rude arguments go to the NYT articles on politics or public controversy where people just call eachother things, not even in the third person. I was just on the site for an article about Gates and the person was called stupid for an incorrect spelling.
