No, because Government has a history of not allowing enough variety and choice in its programs that is runs.. As I see those with government health care end up feeling like they are locked into it... Example: You are unemployed need health benefits for schizophrenia for therapy and meds... But if you get a paying job.. You lose those health benefits for your schizophrenia and to pay your meds.. but a normal paying job will not cover the cost of your therapy and meds... Which would then land you back jobless as you could not function without the therapy and meds... So you end up living on government support trapped there even though you want off of it.. Because you can not get into a higher paying job either do to discrimination of your mental health issue.. or do to the fact you just are not qualified or functioning high enough for those better paying jobs.

Now most who are on programs for health care, and assistance have their praises and their gripes.. But people do not want to listen... And they are not happy about the catagories they are forced into. Not only does the Health Care system need to change, but the employement systems needs to change as well.. To allow more to be employed in jobs they can handle..

No, I have yet to see a government ran system that totally functions and works well. So.. I do not believe the health care system will work.. and we need to keep in mind.. What the government gives to us.. it can take away from us at any moment. Do you want to be on meds and health care support.. and then suddenly the government cuts funding so you a suddenly without health care and your meds and you are totally cut off from your needs? This has happened and is happening... Before the government starts any new health care.. They need to fix the systems they already have.. and make them work.. Including.. Foster care and group home.. and child care systems.. People may not view that as health care.. but any occupation that involves the "well being" of children or adults is health care if you ask me..

Yes, it is gonna. In the Netherlands we have a government controlled health care - actually, having a health care is forced upon you. If you haven't any, you are not allowed to have a job, buy a car and everything.
We don't have problems like ''I can't pay the surgery''. It's a shame people in other countries can't have surgery because they can't pay for it.

the current system isnt very financially suitable to most people, as shown by the "holidays" americans take to Canada for prescriptions and Indonesia for their surgerys. I dont understand what the big deal with government run health care is... health care is a necessity like any other, humans depend on it. If you want a government that is truly responsible for a people than you want a government that can effectively deliver the necessities of it's citizens

It works great in Britain, Canada, and other countries. Whether the USA can overcome anti-government fanatics and medical industry lobbies to put together a similar system remains to be seen.

Of course it can! The United States is one of the only "civilized" countries in the world that doesn't have government funded healthcare for all it's citizens. Look at Canada as an example, or Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the UK, France and Japan. All have excellent healthcare programs, in which almost every medical procedure, doctor's appointment, hospital stay is covered, some even cover dental. And 100% of the population is covered. These countries have been doing this for many decades or longer, and these countries are hardly suffering financially.

I'm not a genious on the whole health care thing ( but than again if there were some genious who knew about it than we wouldn't be in this situation) but it seems to me like were going to have over crowding and long waiting periods, we have a larger population than alot of those countries and not necessarily more hospitals, were going to need more hospitals and the government will have to provide a sense of drive for the doctors so people want to become doctors, the government will have to provide advancement in pay and oppurtunity to create that drive

To paraphrase one of my favorite presidential quotes (right next to "I am not a crook"), it depends on what the meaning of the word "works" is.

If "works" means hospitals treat patients and get paid for it by a new government run system, yes, it is possible that might happen.

If "works" means finacially sound and sustainable over time, no, probably not.

We currently have two government run health care systems, Medicare and Medicaid. While both of them work in the sense that people are treated and health care providers get paid, neither of them are financially sound and sustainable over time.

The government officials who have tried desperately to make Medicare and Medicaid financially sound and sustainable have failed miserably are the same folks that would be in charge of a new government health care system. There seems to be little reason to believe that these same folks will be any more successful at a third system than they have at the first two.
