Is a credit card debt collectible after 7 years if no judgement has been filed or renewed?

A debt collector is attempting to collect a debt that is 9 years old. It's my understanding that this debt is past the statute of limitations and therefore uncollectible. Is this correct?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Depends on which state you are located, use google. Texas has a four year limitation from date of last activity. Try the attached site for you specific state on debt collection in your state.

Unfortunately, the situation you describe is far too common. Aggressive collection attorneys and process servers are frequently careless about properly serving defendants, leading to default judgments against people who do not even know they were sued.

Different states have different limitations. Iowa, Montana and Wyoming have limits beyond seven years, and may be up to ten years if you are in one of those states.

If you don't have the money they can't make you pay it. However, as you owe it to them, you can hardly blame them for attempting to collect
