What are the differences between a first gen iPod Touch and a third gen iPod Touch?

I have a first gen and I'm trying to decide if I should go for a second gen or pay ten extra bucks for a third gen.
What are the differences (between first and third gens) in battery life, external speakers (or lack of?...), external volume control, etc., etc.
