Using the Restore function for your iPhone or iPod touch is part of standard troubleshooting procedure.

Despite the instruction and troubleshooting steps instructions are for iPhone, they are still applicable to iPod Touch (please note the features not available to iPod touch).
I would suggest following the troubleshooting step (as suggested by the Troubleshooting Assistant). Perform one step at a time, then use the device and see if this 'funny crash' has gone. Otherwise, proceed to the next step until you reach the Restore step as the last option.
If restore still has not fixed the issue, it could be the time to visit Apple store for further troubleshooting or repair (should it be required).
The troubleshooting steps are as follow:

1. Recharge
2. Restart
3. Reset iPhone
4. Remove
5. Reset Settings
6. Restore

My iPod Touch had a funny crash this morning but seems (almost) all right now. Should I restore it anyway, or is it safe to sync?
My Touch locked up this morning. When I power cycled it by holding both buttons and turned it back on, it gave me the "connect me to iTunes" screen. When I did, it did the "syncing" thing for a moment, then seemed to be all right--except iTunes no longer knew it by the name I had assigned it, calling it instead "iPod Touch".
The unit itself seems to work all right, has all the programs on it that I remember having on it.
Should I use Restore to restore it back to the last time I sync'ed (several days ago)? Or is it all right just to sync it and assume it's not too badly scrambled?
