You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Super Monkey Ball and Space Ace both look good on the iPad in 2X mode, - in general more 'cartooney' games look good.
But if you compare the iPad and iPhone versions of games like FieldRunners or Xplane, you will see that the iPad versions look way better. My opinion is that it is worth paying extra for the iPad version of a game.

M$You might be more interested in the apps that are Universal apps (apps created for iPhone AND iPad that you only have to buy once). I've created a list of Universal apps and apps that are the same, but different applications for iPhone and iPad here:

M$1. Asphalt 5
I have always loved the Asphalt series in mobile phones. I have heard that they rock on the iPhone/iPad too. The screenshots look awesome. The game offers solo play and head-to-head racing, either locally over Bluetooth and WiFi, or you can game with someone online. http://wireless.ign.com/articles/104/1043164p1.html

2. Mirrors Edge
Offers a fast thrilling experience.

3. Diner Dash : Grilling Green
I am addicted to this game since I downloaded it couple of years ago. This time management game needs you to reach a target money by serving your customers fast enough. The iPad version also looks nice.

4. Flight Control HD
You have mentioned about it. So I think you know a lot better than me.

I think that there is a whole bunch of games on IPhone that are fun: http://www.cell-ringers.com/the-apple-iphone/iphone-games/
But to me it depends on the quality of the graphics if I can enjoy the game or not. And fortunately, with my IPhone I don't have to complain about bad quality.
