The acronym IP gives out different meanings in different fields. Checkout the Source (1) for the meaning of the abbreviation.

But mostly the common abbreviation IP is Internet Protocol. This is referred to a protocol used in the networks for communication.

When you connect to the Internet, your ISP (Internet Service Provider) usually provides you with an IP address which may be static or dynamic.

Your IP Address may look like : 124.32.10.1

Static IP address means that even you are disconnected from internet ( switch off the router/modem), when you connect to the internet next time, your IP address won't be changed.

Dynamic IP address means that when you connect to the internet each time after disconnection, your IP address will be changed.

You can check your IP address by visiting the sites in source (2)

IP is an acronym that can stand for more than one thing. So, you would have to be using this in context to exactly know.

It could mean:

Intellectual Property
Internet Protocol

and more... just check out the source at Abbreviations.com or AcronymFinder.com and then you can make a decision on what you think it stands for.
