M$1. The rinks are Olympic size which means they are generally wider with more room below the goal lines and the neutral zone is also larger. This leads to more of a skating game with less emphasis on physical play. The NHL has room for all kinds of players and their skill sets however in international play most players should possess above average skating ability.
There is more of a tendency to pass the puck around and try to set up a perfect play than to simply shoot as often as possible, which you find much more of in the NHL. Again, the rink size is most likely the reason for this.
