A member of my family who vacationed in Tamarind, Costa Rica last summer tells me the typical breakfast she was served consisted of a fruit plate, eggs and a bread plate. The native mild salsa is called Salsa Lizano. It is available on Amazon!
According the web site www.livecostarica.net, Costa Ricans typically eat three meals a day beginning with a light breakfast and ending with larger lunch and dinner meals.
"A typical Costa Rican Breakfast usually consists of one of two meals. The first one is usually wheat bread, cheese, assorted tropical fruits such as Mango and Papaya with a glass of orange juice to drink. The second, is most common in Costa Rican households and that is Gallo Pinto. Gallo Pinto translates to Spotted Rooster and is made of black beans and rice usually topped with an un-poached egg and often served with fried plantains and/or toast."
"fruits and vegetables that Costa Ricans consume are Mora (Blackberry), Papaya, Guayaba (Guava), Pipa (An orange, hairless coconut that has a sweet water inside), Mamon Chino, Manzana de Agua, Pejivalles, Jocote, Bananas, Guineos, and Plantains."
