Would Blogger consider Game screenshots within a Blog, copyrighted material? Or are screenshots fair use?

I play many MMO games such as Lord of the Rings online and Warcraft. I have collected some very interesting and scenic screenshots of my 'travels'

Was thinking of putting these into a Blog. Would this induce copyright problems with Blogger/Adsense in any way?

Thanks!

I think as long as you leave a little "disclaimer" type thing, that it all belongs to whatever game and company, you would be fine. You aren't posting copies of the game or anything, and you aren't claiming you made the stuff, so you should be fine, but I am not a legal expert.

Best practice is to disclose which game you got the shot from, and post a link to that game's home page. Host the images somewhere like photobucket and add the disclosure there as well as a note. Sometimes people will even name the characters in the screen shot - some will ask the characters for permission (some people do take their characters seriously).

There are no actual copyright issues related to screen shots of programs. Screen shots are used constantly in tutorials (on and off line) and books without the need for intent of use letters.

Myself, as a amateur writer, will send a notice of intent to a software publisher's marketing manager about screenshots I intend to use to support my writing. Most times I receive a surprised letter back simply asking for a copy (or link) to my article, nothing more.

Unless you make money with your blog, there is no point in sending a notice of intent. If you are just posting in the fan sense (as in a fan site blog) then follow the disclosure point I made above.
