Installing updates on my Macbook. Why must it take forever?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I dare you to install Windows XP SP1 and then go through all of the Windows updates to get to SP3 with all of the security patches. Updating Mac software will feel like heaven after that.

I spent 6 hours last week doing exactly that.

This sounds like a rhetorical question, but it's not just a Mac issue. Updates can take a long time on PCs as well. It really just depends on how much there is to update.

I'm speculating here, but part of it might be because Apple puts out new updates so often. I'm on a Windows machine with iTunes and Quicktime and it's always bothering me for new updates.
