Inspiring stories of people with disabilities?

I am looking for inspiring stories of people with disabilities. I'm offering a $5 tip for the best answer, but I will award other tips for answers that meet my criteria. I'd rather award more to several people than just one person.

1. Stay away from obvious stories such as Helen Keller. I'm looking for stories I haven't heard yet.
2. Story must be sourced.
3. Source must be reputable. Wikipedia: No! News Organizations: Yes. Books are okay sources if you list the title and author.

Here is an example:
Kyle Maynard was born with a form of congenital amputation. Yet, he won most of his matches last year and wound up 12th in his 103-pound class at the National High School Wrestling Championships.

In other words, I'm not necessarily looking for a book. I am looking for a little summary and a good source.
Tip for best answer: M$5.00

A celebrated dancer and a successful actress, Sudha Chandran is a glaring example of winning spirit against adverse situations.
Losing part of her leg in an accident in the peak of her dancing career couldn’t hold back Sudha Chandran’s determination and passion for dancing. After amputation of her right leg, she got a prosthetic Jaipur foot. She started dancing again and performed on stage. Her flourishing career also got her a chance to act in it and depict her own real life story in the movie – ‘Mayuri’ in Telegu and Hindi version of it ‘Naache Mayuri’.

This is actually a two for one kind of thing from Cleveland!

One young man is blind and the other lost his legs when he was little... both are state champion wrestlers.

Glenn Shaw.... according to the bio on his site:

"Glenn Shaw has explored some of the world's wildest places... Glenn kayaked off the coast of Antarctica...exploits have included trekking in the Himalayas, skiing and dog sledging in North America, and kayaking in the Middle East. The single detail that makes Glenn's achievements extraordinary is that he has been confined to a wheelchair... all his life."

And for that solid gold reputable source that backs up his story, here is BBC News on his attempt on Everest:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3189310.stm

The BBC quotes him saying he hoped other disabled people could use versions of his equipment to achieve their own personal goals.

"We are not saying go to Everest, but we are saying there is a great deal of the world out there that we hope you can enjoy. It opens a world of possibilities and doors."

What can you say to that? Incredible, but true.

Israel Vibration (Lacelle Bulgin, Albert Craig and Cecil Spence).

They battled polio, survived and now sing praises to The Most High.

Listen to their music. You'll find your inspiration there.
