Inseminate or renovate? As a newlywed who has just purchased a home with your partner, which would you choose?

Would you renovate your aging home and wait for children, or put up with a dated space and have kids now? I thought "inseminate or renovate?" was an interesting way to phrase the question. Unfortunately, I can't take credit for it. I found the quote in this article:

Depends on your objective. If newlyweds are ready for children and don't want to wait, they should 'inseminate' unless the house is in such poor condition that it could be hazardous to a child. Renovating or redecorating a home before having a child can be a big waste as soon as Jr. starts coloring on the wall, bumping objects and skidding across the floor. However, if newlyweds want time to enjoy time together before having kids, prefer to have a bigger financial cushion, or require a major construction project for their home, they should consider waiting to inseminate. Major construction and small children aren't a good mixture. It should really be a comprehensive analysis, not just a baby or home question.

Renovate the babies room and have kids. When you have been a homeowner for a long time you'll see renovations never really stop. The house will always be there. If your ready for kids then just do it. Just fix things like holes in the floor so no one falls through.

I think that if the home is in livable condition without posing any type of hazard or safety issue for the family (especially the children to come) and the couple is absolutely ready to reproduce, then they should go with their wish for children and expand their family. Of course, personal objectives and priorities come into play as well. Thus, depending on what the couple deems more important initially should give clues to which plan should be carried out first. If the couple’s home is in a less than desirable condition and they have the finances for a renovation, then by all means they should renovate. If the house is in okay condition and the only reason for renovation would be to upgrade the place with new appliances and furnishings then the wish for children (if it is great) should be followed and acted upon.
