From the Syracuse football site, he played at Syracuse from 1958 to 1961 and was a letterman in 1960-61. He played at Syracuse with Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. Spillett's brother is the step-father of current offensive coordinator Rob Spence.
