September 25: Welcome Page Managers, to the first Mahalo Weekend Update Contest, During the Weekend Update contest managers will be competing to complete specific types of updates on a specific types of Mahalo Pages.
This week, we are looking for Managers to update and/or add "featured object" sections into their Mahalo "How-To" pages. If you do not manage a "How-To" page you can find them available in Mahalo Tasks, just look for any task labeled "How To Rush Week."
Here is what you have to do to enter the competition.
1. Add one video "Featured Object" at the very top of your page, offer a 100-150 word description of the video.
2. Add one image "Featured Object" somewhere within the lower half of your How-To page, with a 50-100 word description.
Do this on a minimum 1 page, and a maximum 3 pages (do as many pages as you like actually, but only 3 can be entered into the contest). Post as your answer here links to the pages you updated for this contest. There is no rush to post early, as you have all weekend to work on your updates. The winner is chosen by a judge ( @jeffhoard ) on Monday morning.
All participants who follow the guidelines correctly will be entered into the Mahalo Swag draw which takes place Wednesday during the Mahalo Tutorial with @lon.

Jeff, thanks, but I do want to point out something. I didn't 'gain possession' of this page. I created it as a how-to task on the how-to team. All the writing on this page is MINE. The reason the other people are on it is they are the QC team who put the page up when my how-to task was approved.
I researched and found every one of the links to the state applications and I did the coding to make the state names linkable and everything. This is all MY original work, not the work of a page I took over from someone else! If I did so much work on it in the beginning, and it IS such a new page, it really didn't require any changes to it at the time because I had already created the page.
anyway, it might be whining a little, but it seems a little unfair to give me zero on that when the page was written by me just the day before!
Oh, no, Jeff.... mostly I was being silly and whining! Honestly, I wasn't that upset or anything.
Now that I know what you're looking for, it clarifies things for more for the next time too, and I'm tickled pink with my overall score.
For me, it was just hard to do an older page since I've only been on the team a week now! LOL
You did a great job, and I'm sure that in comparison of one page to the other, as long as you are using the same criterion for all pages, then it's totally fair!

Hi Michelle, sorry to have upset you, there were a lot of pages submitted by managers who . Although I admit I could have done a better job promoting it, I was hoping to for managers to submit older pages that they "updated" not new pages that they just created, I created the "above and beyond" judging category as a way to give extra points to users who went out of their way to created additional updates beyond the ones I asked for. It was not meant as a way to punish you managers who submitted new pages. I believe I marked each submission equally and hope that this doesn't hurt the contest.
Try getting an image, hosting it by yourself at flickr or picassa and remember to give the proper credit

But giving credit alone is not enough to be in compliance with copyright - you must also have permission. I have found some good photos on stock exchange that are free though, and then I can host them on my own site.

You just have to be careful with making sure they give the rights to reuse - some require you contact them, some don't, and some say you can't use it for public works, etc. But they photos there are spectacular (at least most of them).

Thanks Jeff for the pointers. I read the contest wrong and thought it was 2 videos. Thus I added another video. I would have had trouble with a photo anyway as the question @michelleldevon asked was not answered and in my line of work, copyright is important. I do however have a whole section dedicated to green fashion images that are provided by google's search. I updated the fashion news section too so I'm not sure why it is not showing that in the improvements. But thanks!
There are a couple judging items I added as "above and beyond" elements - without 'em everybody would have tied :P
Commenting on featured elements is mentioned in many places on Mahalo as a great practice. Don't feel back that you didn't win, these contests are literally just a fun way to learn... or at least I hope they are fun :D

I incorporated a video, which by my rationale, blends well into the itemized instructional process outlined on my page, without distorting its continuity.

As I understood it, the prerequisites for this contest also called for a secondary featured segment near the middle of the page. For that portion, I included an image which can be used as a visual reference source by the readers, especially if they have progressed to that depth of the page and are actually engaged in the activity there described.

All great pages, I noticed you used 2 featured videos instead of 1 video and 1 image, this doesn't hurt your pages at all, but it will effect your score in the contest since it was and image I was looking for. For the contest I selected to judge How to Become a Certified Public Accountant.

Since you asked about grammar, I just want to mention, in the kindest way possible, that in your answer to this question you have mixed up the verb tense.
You say: I am very lucky that I got this page How to Become a Stage Actor and I will never left this page.... the word "will" is a future tense verb, something that has not happened yet, but "left" is a past tense verb, referring to something that has already happened. So to be grammatically correct you would say " I will never leave this page" Take a look at How to Improve Your Writing. Hope this Helps.

I think I am a good stage actor even my age is 14 but I already made some participation in international stage acting festival. So I think I need to catch these video(my acting) and then I need to dabbing in english then I will describe to how make these kind stage acting......
But I think this page is really hard to update to me....because it is "how to become" not "how to acting"......

It covers just the basics of skills you should have, but it does specifically mention theater acting, and it seems to be a good first step. Take a look and see if you think it fits! :)

She describes here how to start stage acting...like my guide not section. Now I also founded some other great video which are uploaded by same person. Thanks...for this video...I think you can see this video on my page...now.

Both pages were good, I don't think either has a clear advantage over the other, I chose to judge the How to Play Monopoly

6. .75 - Quality video, And I notice there are a few images used for this page, all are great. I can't read the board image however, perhaps pointing to a link to a bigger version would be ideal?
7. 1 - The descriptions were good, I docked people in the past for no inlinking but I could not find any situations where you might have needed it here.
8. 0 - Newer page I understand, but only the featured objects were added.
9. 1 - Complete page, not much to improve on here, very well done.
10. .75 - Titled both but only commented on 1. so 3/4 of the point.
Total = 8.5
