In yahoo messenger, how do you completely turn off the alert (orange color) when someone messages you?
Anyone who knows how to do this? I can't see it in the preferences or I must have missed it. Thanks!
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$Select Preferences from the Messenger menu.
In the Preferences window, select the Alerts & Sounds category on the left.
Select the Alerts & Sounds category on the left.
On the right side of the Preferences window, check Enable alert sounds (it’s checked by default), then select an event from the Alert me when list (such as I receive a message in Yahoo! Mail as shown below).
Select an event from the Alert me when list.
The area below the event list updates to show the possible alerts and sounds that you can set for the selected event.
In the area below the list, check the alert options you would like Yahoo! Messenger to employ when the event occurs.
Then click ok button
