In the Mahalo store, why does a $25 amazon card cost M$44?
2) i thought buying gift certificates gave a better (not worse) conversion rate than "to cash."
Thanks
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

For example, you might notice that the $25 Zappos Gift Card is priced at M$44 (44 Mahalo Dollars). There are a few reasons for this. First, a Mahalo Dollar is worth $0.75 USD, so M$44 is worth $33. Thus you are really only paying $33 for the $25 Zappos Card, and that includes the Shipping costs.
But the real incentive is that there is no waiting period. If you want to redeem your Mahalo Dollars for cash, then you have to reach M$150 in order to cash out. But, if you want to buy something from the Mahalo Store, you can buy it immediately as long as you have the Mahalo Dollars in your account.

M$So the conversion rate is for "processing" or "handling"
Way back in July the Mahalo dollar lost all of the previous attachment to real money so there is no actual conversion rate any longer. We cannot "cash out" at all. The conversion rate one would get for their MDs depends on the item purchased. With the new Amazon gift cards valued at $50 US and costing $75 MD our conversion rate for buying those has improved a bit to 1 MD to 0.666 US but if one were to buy an iPad the conversion rate is 1 to 1 MD to US rate.
To me the Mahalo dollars I get here are just money I wouldn't have had otherwise so I really don't mind the conversion rate but I can understand that people would want to get more for their money. I mean we are programmed to look for the best deals and lower conversion rates throw red flags in that programming.
With the new default value of a Mahalo question being $1.00MD I have found it pretty easy to see me MD balance go up quite quickly.

I'll take your word for it, but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
First: $8.00 shipping for an item that could be sent in a first class letter is insane.
Second: why ship anything? Is a physical "gift card" the only way to get a $25.00 credit at amazon? Why not just email the 10 or 12 digit code? I understand , that's not a very nice "gift."
Thanks for your answer. Here's your 12 Mcents. (cash value 0.09 USD)
